BRYAN CO., GA (WTOC) - It was a sea of purple at J.F. Gregory Park in Bryan County Friday night for the Relay for Life event.
Friday's event ends at midnight and it began at 7 p.m.
This American Cancer Society movement is the world's largest fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities all over to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and take action to finish the fight once and for all.
"I'm hopeful that one day... dream big. One day we don't have to do this anymore. That cancer is eradicated and at least that those that hear the words 'you have cancer' are not totally devastated and can look forward to surviving and living life," said Lynn Pruette, cancer survivor.
According to the event's website, so far they're raised over $6,000.
The American Cancer Society says thanks to volunteers and fundraising, it helps them save more than 500 lives a day.
