Women drop ethics complaint against Tony Thomas

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Two Savannah women have decided to drop an ethics complaint against 6th District Alderman Tony Thomas, but they say it's not because the complaint wouldn't be successful.

Karen Thompson and Debra Kujawa complained that Thomas was using his private business office on the Southside as his political campaign office, something many believed violated the city's code of ethics.

I spoke with Kujawa Monday night. She told me to prove their case, they would have to subpoena evidence currently in the hands of the GBI. And doing that could jeopardize the state's ongoing child sex assault investigation of the alderman.

Even if they won the ethics complaint, she said, it would have only been a slap on Thomas' wrist.   Adding, the criminal investigation has to take precedence.
