CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Students showed off their footwear works of art at Hubert Middle School on Monday.
"Artists in Training: A Shoe Design Program" is an after school initiative. Leading the charge, local footwear artist Adjhillah Johnson, better known as AJ the Artist.
The program allows students to get their creative juices flowing while learning the concepts of artistry in shoe customization.
"To see it actually come to life, of course for the level that they're on, it blew my mind. So their imagination was inspiration to me. Very impressive and just, breathtaking almost," said AJ.
"It felt good. Cause I like painting. It just calms me down and it just brightens up my day," said Akelo Stone, 8th grade.
Tolen Bartley's design came in first place, and Lashawna Smart came in second, followed by Akelo Stone in third and Wille Ross in fourth. Aryonte Lee placed fifth and Ellexus Hicks came in sixth. Eric Brinson got the final placement, coming in seventh, respectfully.
