CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Some relief should be coming to those affected by the construction work on the Diamond Causeway. The work is being moved to nights on Thursday. Crews will be on the Skidaway Narrows Bridge from 11:30 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday (weather permitting).
Georgia Department of Transportation said they're holding the contractors accountable for their end of the contract, and the taxpayers are not paying more for the work.
"It just wasn't up to the standard that it should be," GDOT's Jill Nagel said. "So we are really holding them to give us what the taxpayers have paid for."
Nagel said the work is not because of a safety issue on the bridge, but rather enhancing the structure of the bridge.
All work on the Diamond Causeway should be done by the end of June.
