STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Youngsters at one school in Statesboro found a tasty way to learn Friday morning.

Second graders at Mattie Lively Elementary took part in the school's 12th annual lemonade stand. It comes on the heels of the classes reading the book “Lemonade for Sale” by Stuart Murphy.

The second graders sell the lemonade and baked goods donated by parents. Teachers say the project helps reinforce all the skills taught in second grade, including making change and more.

“We talk about goods and services during our economics unit. Also, a little bit of science, because we talk about mixing the lemonade and sugar and making an irreversible mixture. So it really goes all the way across the curriculum,” said teacher Christie Page.

The school uses the money raised from the lemonade sale to either support a local charity or take second graders on a field trip to a store where they each spend $2.
