SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Georgia Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols is finishing his "Lower Rates Bus Tour" right here in Savannah.

The tour began Thursday in Atlanta, and ended Friday in Johnson Square in Savannah. It's to emphasize the importance of Georgia Powers' recently lowered rates.

Customers should have noticed an almost $10 decrease in their bill during the past six months. Echols says it's thanks to a recent merger between the Southern Company and Atlanta Gas Light Resources.

"This resulted in a deal that was struck with Georgia Power and our rate-payers that freeze the rates for three years. So, not only have we had this $10 decrease over the last six months, we've frozen the rates for three years,” said Echols.
