SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A group of young men in Savannah are learning about entrepreneurship, and also community service.

Monday, the Ironmen serviced their first customer.

Their motto is: A sharp man is a better man.

"We sharpen one another. There are skills that I have that I can give to each young man and they have skills that they can give me as well," said Montre Everett, Founder of Ironmen of Savannah.

Ironmen is a nationwide non-profit organization and provides mentoring for boys ages 12 through 18.

"Basically what we're trying to do with our young men is give them skills that they wouldn't learn in school," said Everett.

"So far, he's teaching us to be businessmen, entrepreneurs. He's teaching us how to make our own merchandise and sell it," said 12-year-old John Odom, Ironmen of Savannah.

Monday, the group took to carpeting the Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club.

"When I get older, I could do a career out of carpenter stuff like that, like carpeting, painting, building houses," said Odom.

These are skills the boys can take with them throughout their lives and it also gives them goals to focus on now.

"The negative spotlight that's being placed on a lot of especially young African-American men. Right now the statistics say that one in three will end up in a prison system. We want to be the proof that shows that no longer is that the case," said Everett.

"It helps me be a better man and I get to be around men that actually want us to do something with our lives instead of going out in the streets and having negative impacts, "said Odom.

Some of their next projects this summer will include things like building dog houses and book shelves, which they will sell to the community to help fund their futures.
