Captain Bill Creek closed in Ridgeland due to wastewater overflow

RIDGELAND, SC (WTOC) -

Swimming and fishing is prohibited in Captain Bill Creek in Ridgeland until further notice after thousands of gallons of wastewater overflowed into the creek due to rains and flooding associated with Tropical Storm Bonnie.

According to the Town of Ridgeland Wastewater Treatment Plant, overflows estimated at 75,000 to 100,000 gallons discharged into Captain Bill Creek.

Samples are being collected and when results indicate improved conditions, this notice will be repealed.
