HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

It rained all over the Lowcountry Thursday afternoon, but at the Hilton Head beaches there were pockets of sunshine.

Some of the island's veteran surfers were teaching that skill to special needs young people, who also enjoyed paddle boarding as well as a little soccer. The get together was a thank you event by the organization "Pockets Full of Sunshine" which is working toward integrating special needs folks into the community and more specifically helping them develop skills and find jobs.

"I've just seen a lot of smiles and a lot of laughter. I've seen some adults and kids in the water and they wipe out and still really happy when they get up and that's what we want, everybody to have fun - everybody to be included,” said Lauren Rivers, Pockets Full of Sunshine.

“Pockets Full of Sunshine” is a new organization on Hilton Head Island serving the folks with special needs.
