SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A single car crash shut down westbound traffic on I-16 at the 37th Street Connector for at least two hours early Sunday morning.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Major Accident Investigations Team (MAIT) and Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene around 1:45 a.m. to extricate the victim who was trapped inside his car.
Officials say 24-year-old Tyler Chilen of Brooklet, Georgia was driving toward westbound I-16 from the 37th Street entry ramp in a 2006 Land Rover LR3 when he drove off the road into the center median, striking a tree head-on. It is unclear what caused Chilen to exit the roadway at this time.
Chilen was then transported to Memorial with serious, but non-life threatening injuries for treatment.
Chilen was the only person inside of his vehicle during the accident; No other injuries were reported.
This is an ongoing MAIT investigation.
