A brush fire got out of control in Port Wentworth. Someone spotted a blaze off Highway 30 and Moinhard Road and called the volunteer fire department.
Fire crews started to battle the flames, then decided to let it burn itself out.
The fire was on land that's being cleared for development. Officials believe the contractors may have been burning debris in a nearby hole when the ambers from that fire were blown into another pile of debris sparking a larger fire, which quickly spread.
Volunteer firefighters will keep an eye on the blaze throughout the morning. They say no one is in any immediate danger.
