SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

We’re following a special meeting called by the Chatham County Hospital Authority.

This is the authority's first meeting since the Memorial-Novant deal fell through.

After an hour of executive session behind closed doors, the authority unanimously approved several resolutions pertaining to Memorial Health and its parent company. They voted to have an accounting firm audit Memorial Health, and they will also seek guidance from the Georgia Attorney General regarding the obligations of authority members who also serve on the Memorial Board of Directors.

"The hospital obtains an annual audit from Dixon, Hughes & Goodman- which is a reputable accounting firm that has been doing the audits for the hospital for four or five years. They've done a good job. I frankly don't understand why, all of a sudden, there's a need or desire for another audit,” said Curtis Lewis, board member, Memorial parent company.

According to a member of the authority, they have not heard anything further from Novant since the deal fell through, but they have had interest from other potential partners since then.

They reiterated that they reject any responsibility for the failure of that agreement with Novant. The authority's chairman says they're now focused on moving forward with Memorial as their full partner.
