SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A 'topping out' ceremony was held Wednesday at a soon to be brand new elementary school in Savannah.
This ceremony means construction at Brock Elementary is half-way finished. The nearly $20 million ESPLOST funded project will be finished by August 3.
The walls are up – there is paint, doors and classrooms that are starting to come together.
One thing the principal said she is trying to do is keep the memory of Otis Brock alive.
"He worked for the entire community. It was not just one school, one community. It was for the entire community and he placed his whole heart and soul into getting construction done not only at this school, but with all of the other new schools that they're building in this system," said Principal of Brock Elementary, Maggie Zeigler.
Brock passed away suddenly in 2012.
To fulfill his wish of preparing students for the future, the new school features the latest in technology. This includes white boards, iPads, laptops and more.
