HARTWELL, Ga. (AP) - A 46-year-old woman strangled a rabid bobcat to death after the animal attacked the woman in her front yard in northeast Georgia. The Athens-Banner Herald reports DeDe Phillips of Hart County went outside on June 7 to take a picture when the bobcat lunged at her. She then grabbed the cat by its throat and didn't let go.

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta's airport is aiming to add staff and make upgrades so it can handle the crowds of travelers expected for big events such as the upcoming Super Bowl. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the world's busiest airport has asked city officials for approval to add 28 positions to its staff. Airport officials say the employees would handle more Uber and Lyft vehicles at the airport, manage traffic around construction, and bolster its command center to respond to issues.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Firefighters blame a bug bomb for starting a fire inside a home in Georgia. Nobody was injured when the small fire started in the laundry room of a house in Savannah. Fire officials said bug bombs to fumigate for cockroaches released fumes that were ignited by a pilot light on a hot water heater.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia State Patrol says a driver lost control of his truck at a mudding event and fatally struck a 15-year-old and a 10-year-old. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the children were killed in the incident Saturday at the South Creek Mud Boggin' in Milledgeville and pronounced dead at the scene. An 11-year-old was also hit and flown to a medical facility in Jacksonville, Florida.
