FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina woman has been charged after fetal remains were found during an eviction. Police say the 41-year-old woman was charged in the case that began unfolding earlier this week. Laurens County jail records show she was being held Saturday on a charge of homicide by child abuse.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina woman has killed a nearly 13-foot alligator as part of the state's annual hunt for the reptiles. The State newspaper reports that 37-year-old Laura Robinson Griffin of Belton was hunting alligator for the first time at Lake Moultrie near Charleston. At 4-foot-10, she's about one-third as tall as the alligator was long.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - The U.S. National Hurricane Center says people along the Carolinas and the Mid-Atlantic coasts should watch the progress of Maria. The storm is about 285 miles (460 kilometers) east of Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland Rep. John Delaney is campaigning in South Carolina and Iowa this weekend. Delaney, who announced he is running for president, is scheduled to deliver remarks to the Horry County Democratic Party Shore Dinner in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday night. He will be in Audubon, Iowa, on Sunday for the Audubon County Democratic Party annual fundraiser.
