SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina prosecutor says he didn't seek the death penalty against a man who admitted killing seven people because he couldn't guarantee to the families that the killer would be executed. Solicitor Barry Barnette said Friday that lawmakers need to figure out a way to start back the death penalty. South Carolina ran out of execution drugs and hasn't been able to obtain any more. The last execution in the state happened in 2011.

WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina man is convicted of locking two teenage boys in a bedroom with little food and forcing them to use a bucket as a toilet. Solicitor Duffie Stone's office announced Friday a jury convicted 56-year-old Ernest Bailey of Walterboro of child neglect. A prosecutor said Bailey dated the teen's guardian and forced the 13- and 14-year-old boys into their bedroom whenever she left for work or to run errands.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina wildlife authorities are investigating after photos circulated online showing beer being poured down a young alligator's throat. State Department of Natural Resources Kyndel McConchie says charges are expected on Friday. Reports indicate the incident occurred in Beaufort County.

WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) - A woman has been arrested and charged in a shooting in South Carolina that killed two adults and a child earlier this month. Nineteen-year-old La Shay Jaire Aiken of Walterboro was arrested by Aiken County sheriff's deputies on Thursday and faces accessory charges. A couple and their 13-year-old son were found dead in their home in Ruffin on May 16.
