GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - A coroner says the deaths of a South Carolina couple appear to be a murder-suicide. Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says the victims were 38-year-old Wallace Lee Hollis and 39-year-old Tina Elease Makeupson. Fowler said the couple had a history of domestic violence. Fowler said it appears Hollis killed himself Monday afternoon after attacking Makeupson at their home in Gaffney.

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - State-owned utility Santee Cooper says it is closing three retail offices in South Carolina where customers can pay their bills to save about $1 million. The company announced Monday it will close the offices in Garden City, North Myrtle Beach and Conway over the spring and early summer and creating a new mobile app and improving its site to pay bills online. Santee Cooper says the retail office in Myrtle Beach and the one at its corporate headquarters in Moncks Corner will remain open.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Thousands of people turned out for the funeral of a South Carolina sheriff's deputy who was killed last week in an ambush. York County Det. Mike Doty was remembered as someone who would walk around with a scowl most of the time. But his friends and family say he had a passion for helping people, especially addicts and teens who wanted to grow up to be police officers.

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) - A 19-year-old man has died after being shot at a park in coastal South Carolina. Investigators say A'sharr Kysean Cox of Conway was shot Sunday night in Georgetown County. Investigators say Cox was taken to a hospital in Georgetown before he was transferred to a hospital in Myrtle Beach, where he died early Monday. Investigators say the shooting followed a dispute at the park. No arrests have been made.
