SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

There's some very Good News to share this week.

We start in Statesboro where Officer J.D. Lewis and APO Shane Jenkins saw some kids trying to play basketball with a soccer ball and broken goal. The pair decided to take action and, with their own money, bought the kids some new equipment… as well as some new trust in those who protect and serve us.

Over the weekend around 40 volunteers from Gulfstream and The Savannah Metro Rotary Club gave up a couple hours of their time to make the Mother Matilda Beasley Par in downtown Savannah a perfect place for children to play. The group pruned trees, mulched and picked up trash to make the park more enjoyable for kids enjoying their summer break.

And finally, congratulations go out to Pamela Turek, who at the age of 72, and 11 years after being diagnosed with Parkinson's, decided to take up competitive weightlifting.  She recently won her age group at the Matt Davis Memorial Championship in Savannah. She says the experience was exciting and a little intimidating. Well done Pamela.
