CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A vote to approve a new EMS provider for EMS Zone 3, which covers the islands, and Zone 4, which covers the western part of the county including Garden City, Pooler, and Port Wentworth, was tabled Friday at the Chatham County Commission meeting.

But it appears Southside may be out in those areas.

WTOC spoke with Dean Kicklighter. Zone 4 is in Kicklighter’s district.

He says he has the highest respect for Southside and the work they do, but that their initial bid came in much higher than Coastal EMS and he does not think it is fair that Southside now try and lower their bid.

"I would have to question the, how right or wrong is that to receive bids and then allow someone to go back once they see the bids and underbid it. I would have to ask myself if that is the ethical thing to do,” said Commissioner Kicklighter.

Kicklighter says at this point, he will vote for Coastal EMS. Southside would still service that area when it came to fire.
