People gathered at Bay Street Blues for a fundraiser in honor of the Orlando victims.

WTOC met an Orlando resident who said she works at one of the hospitals where many of the victims were taken. She was off the night of the shooting and had previously planned a trip to Savannah with her friend.

“It’s just very heartwarming. It was a terrible tragedy that happened and it’s so nice and refreshing to see that there are people out there who care and can come together and that there’s still a lot of really good people out there,” said Dawn Hayner, Orlando resident.

The Bay Street Blues bar owner says the event raised $3000 at Wednesday night's event, which will go to a GoGundMe account that is set up for the Orlando shooting victims and their families.

"I think it was awesome. Just tonight we raised an amazing $2954. We had a raffle, we sold hot dogs, and the bar donated 100% of Jell-O shots and 50% of overall sales. I don't think I've ever been so proud of the bar. My slogan for this event was 'turning hatred into hope,'" said Bonnie Walden, owner of Bay Street Blues.

Walden said she pitched in the last $50 to make the total $3000.

Thank you to everyone who attended and donated.
