LIBERTY CO., GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle accident that happened on I-95 at mile marker 70, just before 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon in Midway.

Midway Police say two adult males and two children ages 5 and 7 were traveling in a Chevy S-10 pick up truck when the vehicle left the highway and flipped over several times before landing in a ditch.

52-year-old Byron Marshall, of Jacksonville, was ejected from the car and was killed.

The other passengers were not ejected from the 1995 Chevy S-10, however the occupants were not wearing seat belts. They were helped out of the vehicle by passersby, according to GSP Trooper Robert Balkcom.

52-year-old Terry Thomas sustained broken bones and laceration and the two children sustained cuts and bruises.  They were transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah where they are expected to recover.

Marshall, according to Balkcom, was returning to Jacksonville after purchasing two dogs in Richmond Hill.

Speed does not appear to have played a factor in the accident which is under investigation.
