HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

An early morning fire destroyed a business in Hinesville, and threatened others.

The fire at this market not only devastates the owner, but the hundreds of customers who came here for produce for more than a decade.

Richard Schroeder started selling fresh produce from this tent, then moved into a storefront. That store burned early Monday morning. He couldn't believe what he saw when he got here.

“Man, there were more fire trucks out here than you could imagine. And the flames were just shooting up,” said Schroeder.

Fire crews from Hinesville, Walthourville, Liberty County, and Fort Stewart came to help. Owners of the pawn shop next door credit them and a fire wall from keeping their damage to a minimum.

Now they must figure out how it started. So far, they don't suspect anything suspicious.

“We don't see anything that points us in that direction but we'll look at everything just in case,” said Hinesville Fire Cpt. Robert Kitchings.

The store drew loyal customers from all over town. The fire leaves them and Schroeder figuring out what to do next.

“We've never had anything like this. But we'll overcome it,” said Schroeder.

He says he'll go back to selling from the tent until he can find a new building.

Talk about the impact a business can have. Customers have been coming by Monday with words of support and offers to help anyway they can to get the shop open as soon as possible.
