SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Students at Hodge Elementary School are showing off their new edible garden, thanks to a donation by the 21st Century Community Learning Center.

Hodge Elementary's garden includes a greenhouse made from reclaimed, recycled and reused materials, four raised beds and a community mural. This project shows that anyone can have access to healthy food. Plus, this garden helps educate students throughout the district.

"Hands on learning for us is the best kind of learning. Having kids be able to not only read about, but do it, is an amazing thing for us. This is all made possible by the partners in the community who came here together to get this garden up and going, and it's just a blessing to have these people around and help us make this happen, and the kids learning it in a book and coming outside to practice it, to me, that's what it's all about," said Nicholas Allen Tunsil, Grant Specialist with the 21st Century Programs.

The project's goal is to establish school gardens across the Savannah community, to unite neighborhoods and inspire simple solutions to challenges facing our community.
