CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The Park Place Outreach - Youth Emergency shelter received a $10,000 donation from O.C Welch III to help them buy a new nine passenger Ford van.

This van will replace the older van the shelter had previously. The shelter provides a safe place to stay, as well as transporting young people from Savannah to other daily activities.

"The van is an essential part of the program because as I said before, it transports people to medical appointments, to schools and to court as well,” said Dashauna Kimbile, senior case manager.

"There’s a lot of opportunities to help people, you'll never run out of opportunities to help people and a lot of times what people don’t understand is when you're helping somebody, you’re really helping yourself,” said Welch.

Park Place Outreach operates the only shelter in Savannah and Chatham County serving youth age 11 to 17.
