SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Most people know Chippewa Square as the place with the park bench made famous by Tom Hanks in the movie, "Forrest Gump".

Now some changes are on the way.

Thursday, the Savannah City Council approved putting an ornamental iron fence around the monument in the square at Bull and McDonough streets.

It's the same kind of fencing now surrounding the monuments in Johnson and Wright squares.
Additional lighting will also be installed.

Once the work is done, the statue of James Oglethorpe, who founded the colony of Georgia and designed the layout for Savannah's squares, will be lit up at night.
