SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Fireworks will happen across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry this Fourth of July.

July Fourth is on a Monday this year so people will be celebrating this weekend.

If you plan on being in Downtown Savannah for Independence Day, you might want to alternate your plans for travel.

If you’re traveling into downtown, considerations such as carpooling with friends and family may cause less traffic for you and others. Also, consider transportation services that will get you to your destination without being behind the wheel.

Check out your local hotels because some may have services.

"We have water ferry service that takes people back and forth from 7 a.m. until midnight. In addition to that hotel guest have to options to go downtown through our resort shuttle... and we run that four times a day,” said Mark Spadoni, the general manager for the Savannah Westin.

The water ferry going from River Street to the Westin is free of charge and runs every 15-20 minutes, starting at 7 a.m. until midnight.
