There’s some very Good News to share this week!
We start with the Hoofs 4 Healing program that hosted 25 soldiers from the Warrior Transition Battalion from Fort Stewart.
The soldiers, who had sustained injuries in combat or in training, were at the stable taking part in an activity they are often restricted from. The program is helping the soldiers experience a rare and remarkable form of horseback therapy.
About 45 local high school students are spending their summer months volunteering at Memorial Health in their "Volunteen Program."
The volunteens get hands-on experience in the health field, helping them to prepare for their future career paths. Hospital staff tells us the volunteens help them take care of patients more efficiently, and the patients really enjoy them as well.
And finally we take you to Camp Buddy in Effingham County. This is a program designed by the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society to help prevent summer slip back for children with Down syndrome. Volunteers help the buddies work on motor, communication, social and cognitive skills.
Camp Buddy has been gaining momentum since it was introduced eight years ago, and there will be a week long camp offered in Savannah later in the summer.
