This week we celebrate America’s birthday and our independence.
Coincidentally our celebration of freedom from England comes less than a week after the UK voted to seek its freedom from the European Union.
We will celebrate the Fourth of July with cookouts, fireworks and trips to the beach. It will be a time for families to take a mid-summer break and gear up for the dog days ahead.
But consider this: Independence never comes without a cost. Our 240 years of freedom has been earned by the millions of people who proudly wear a uniform and defend our rights and our borders.
This holiday week is about celebration, but it should also be about gratitude for all that we have and for all who help provide it to us.
So as you grill a hot dog or burger this week, please take a moment to think about and pray for the men and women who give all they have to make America the land of the free and the home of the brave.
