We start with a doctor and nurse form Memorial Health who trying to make difference a half a world away. Dr. Marc Bailey, who is Memorial’s Director of Thoracic Oncology, and his wife, a nurse practitioner at Memorial, adopted a child from Ethopia.
During the adoption process the Baileys, gave their time to help educate Ethiopian health care workers about American medical techniques. Now, Memorial is giving them the tools to put together a team to return to the developing country to provide even more care.
This week Mina Kirshner is celebrating a major milestone. Her family gathered to celebrate her 102nd birthday.
Kirshner said it was just another day and didn’t want the fuss, though she eventually gave into to her family’s wishes. Ms. Kirshner said she’s never drank or smoked, but does have one vice: chocolate. She’s eats its every day.
And finally, what better way to celebrate America’s 240th birthday than hearing a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Dozens gathered at the Chatham County Courthouse for the 5th annual reading of the document. Leopold’s Ice Cream was on hand to cool the crowd down afterward.
