CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

More than two dozen Chatham County Sheriff’s Office deputies and employees were recognized for their service and outstanding performance.

Twenty-four deputies were promoted during Monday's Quarterly Awards Ceremony, some of them walking away with a new title, including Corporal and Sergeant.

"A lot of people have a misconception about people who are in the jail. When they are arrested on the street - an officer on the street only has to bother with them for a short time - we have them until they are tried or either sent off to the state or even found not guilty. So we are with them 365, 24 hours a day, seven days a week and my hats are off to the ladies and gentlemen who do this job,” said Sheriff John Wilcher.

Six civilian employees were also recognized and promoted during Monday's ceremony.
