One suspect was apprehended, another on the loose after a chase ended on Interstate 16 near Dean Forest Road.
According to officials, two suspects were stealing power tools from the Lowe’s in Rincon. An off-duty Chatham County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted the suspects and notified police.
The suspects’ vehicle was traveling up to 100 MPH before being stopped by a pit maneuver. The suspects’ vehicle went into the wood line.
"The driver was driving recklessly. He was running people off the road. There was a good chance it would have ended injuring someone. There were several vehicles he ran off the road. He cut in front of people. Stopped suddenly in front of folks, so it was getting more and more dangerous as it went along,” said Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Joe Heath.
The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The passenger escaped on foot. Authorities are currently searching in the air and on ground.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Port Wentworth Police, Pooler Fire, Georgia State Patrol, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police and more all responded to the scene.
