SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The YMCA of Coastal Georgia is collaborating with Everybody Eats Fresh Free Friday to provide residents in need with access to free, fresh produce.

The event was held at the Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care facility. Each person in need was given two bags of fresh produce and bread, free of charge until they ran out.

The YMCA say they wanted to partner with the Everybody Eats Fresh Free Friday to serve the people in our community.

"Providing an additional opportunity for people in our community who may be food insecure to have access to fresh, healthy foods. We just feel it’s really important to make sure when we can we provide service and meet critical needs within our community,” said YMCA Marketing and Communications Specialist Hillary Bradbury.

In Coastal Georgia, nearly 150,000 residents are food insecure, with an estimated 83,000 children being at-risk for hunger.
