HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - There is no doubt that the RBC Heritage has a huge impact on our area. A few years back, we found out that it's not a given that it's going to be here every year.
But at least now we know, it's at least going to be here for the next seven years.
We did find out back in 2011, what it felt like to possibly lose one of the biggest sporting events in our area as the tournament was without a sponsor.
RBC stepped in in 2012 and apparently they like the way things are going. Tuesday, they announced that they have resigned to sponsor the event for the next seven years, running to 2023.
The folks involved with the tournament at Harbour Town are really glad to get this deal done.
"This one has gone fairly easy, but you never know till you know. It's great to have the contract signed and secured and in hand, everybody is happy and we're delighted to work with RBC another seven years," said Heritage Classic Foundation Chairman Simon Fraser.
RBC also announced it is renewing its agreement with The Canadian Open, being played this week.
