JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) - In the Lowcountry, the South Carolina Department of Transportation has delayed cutting down some trees along a dangerous stretch of road nicknamed the "Coffin Corridor" on I-95 in Jasper County.
Officials say the trees will now be cut at the end of next summer. They say plans to cut the trees are taking longer than expected.
This tree-cutting project follows a controversial one that wrapped in September of last year along I-26 in Dorchester and Berkeley counties.
The opposition to that plan resulted in control of the project being taken away from DOT and given to a local group.
