SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Officials now know the cause of the "reverse sinkhole" on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard that occurred two weeks ago

The City of Savannah said “thermal expansion” caused the road to buckle, meaning the road materials heated up and expanded. That expansion caused the road to crack.

Savannah’s street maintenance director said it is a very rare occurrence, even in the heat Savannah experiences.
