Some of the area's best softball teams get a jump on the pre-season this week, all for a good cause.
Fifteen high school teams took part in the fifth annual Miriam Burnette Striking Out Alzheimer's Softball tournament.
Teams came from as far away as Baxley, as well as those from Bulloch and adjoining counties.
Organizers will use the money raised to help local Alzheimer's patients and offer support to their families and care givers.
“Even though these players are age 14-18, so many of these girls have lost a grandparent to Alzheimer's. So, many of these coaches have lost a parent or grandparent to Alzheimer's,” said Chandler Denard, a member of the tournament committee.
The tournament continues Wednesday at the Georgia Southern Lady Eagles Softball Complex.
They hope to raise more than $20,000 again this year.
