EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Tuesday, the first ever champions of the Georgia Middle School Cheerleading Competition were presented with their rings.
The winners were from South Effingham Middle School. The school itself is only 20 years old.
This is a great and historic feat, the first time the school has won a state competition in any sport.
Principal Brigit Nesmith said the team excels in much more than just cheerleading.
"They're wonderful not just on the cheerleading mat. They obviously won state and have the title and are getting the rings to prove it, but they're great in the classroom. They're great role models for all of the other girls at our school and other middle schools across Georgia," Nesmith said.
The rings will give the girls something to remember the season by and will serve as a reminder that hard work truly pays off.
