Members of the 48th Brigade of the Georgia Air National Guard started their weekend handing out some honors to their supporters.
The 48th Brigade's Family Readiness Group presented awards to organizations like the American Red Cross, the USO, and Memorial Health University Medical Center.
It's the group's way of saying thanks for help from the organizations with the 48th Brigade's family day and for all the help the organizations have promised in the future.
"We are also finding new ways to fundraise and to support the soldiers who are leaving anywhere from May 15 to May 19 out of Hunter and going overseas to Iraq," said chairperson Amy Boan.
Nine hundred members of the 48th Brigade are currently training in California, preparing for a one-year deployment in the Middle East. Their travels overseas will begin this summer.
