SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - 37 days remain until the Tyson Summers era of Georgia Southern Football is officially underway in Statesboro.
The Eagles have plenty of support in Savannah, which is why the new head coach made his way to the city Thursday to mix and mingle with Eagles football fans to get them geared up for kickoff on September 3rd.
"Well, the butterflies are more for making sure the preparation's right. The organization and the details we need to have a coaching staff, you know, not from a players' standpoint. Big piece from this point is being able to give them a chance to play fast and let it rip," said Tyson Summers, Georgia Southern Head Coach.
"I think the summer's been great, from a competition standpoint, the work and effort that our guys have put in. So much of the summer is obviously about getting stronger, getting in better shape, weight gain, all those kind of things. And a huge factor behind that is getting a chance to get a jump on them academically. But as big and important of a part as any of it is the cohesion that they have, in coming together as a team, make sure that they're all bought in and being in on the same mindset. And I think that's been where we've made our greatest strides this summer."
The Eagles' first preseason practice Monday at Eagle Creek.
