Slow, steady progress rebuilds downtown Glennville after fire

GLENNVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

Slow and steady progress is putting a downtown area back together after a devastating fire destroyed a part of Glennville last month.

Environment concerns initially slowed the cleanup process after the incident, which left debris in the streets for weeks due to concerns of possible asbestos. The city had tests done, and with the results, officials are now saying the city can finally move forward.

Mayor Chris Roessler told us they don't have any specific plans yet, but this gets them a step closer. Many in Glennville would tell you Barnard Street looks the best it has since the fire in June.

Meanwhile, the young man who police arrested and charged with arson a few days after the fire is still awaiting his case to go before a grand jury. We'll let you know how all of that goes.
