SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The fourth annual Savannah Voice Festival kicks off Sunday with French composer Gounod's opera Roméo et Juliette, a performance held at Asbury United Methodist Church.
"The Summer of Romance," is this year's festival theme, featuring music from a variety of opera and musical theatre genres.
The two-week event will include 45 concerts, workshops, and educational presentations hosted by the non-profit group The Voice Experience Foundation.
125 opera singers from around the world come together every year for the festival to perform throughout the city.
"It's about great singing infiltrating Savannah, and serving the community, and actually creating more interest in Savannah as a destination for great music," said Maria Zouves, Executive Director, Savannah Voice Festival.
The festival runs until August 21st.
