'Meet and Greet' with finalists for Statesboro Police chief

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

City officials have identified the three finalists for the job of Statesboro Chief of Police.

The three finalists were chosen from a field of seven semifinalists from several states.

The three finalists are Chief Herbert Blake of Hendersonville, NC, Saundra Rhodes, retired chief of Horry County, SC, and retired GBI Special Agent in Charge Charles Sikes of Statesboro.

The job has been open since Wendell Turner stepped down in September of last year. Major Rob Bryan has served as an interim since then.

The city introduced the trio at a public meet and greet where each explained why they want to be chief.

All three talked about their experiences and answered identical questions. The trio met with police officers and community members earlier in the day.

City leaders tell us the forum process Tuesday gives folks more input in the final choice.

“Our community has had the chance to meet these three candidates, form their own opinions and they can share their opinions with their elected officials and me. I see no reason why that isn't beneficial to us as a community,” said Statesboro Mayor Jan Moore.

They hope to reach a decision within the next week. We'll let you know who they choose.
