CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - With Savannah's search for a new city manager narrowed to one candidate, officials with the Chatham County Commission are now weighing in.
Thursday, Broward County, Florida's Deputy County Administrator Roberto Hernandez was named the sole finalist. Here's what Chatham County Manager Lee Smith had to say about the decision.
"Just looking at his background, we're pleased that he's had county experience. Because he'll understand where we're coming from and vice versa. So we're hoping as soon as he gets here to sit down, get to know each other. I reached out to him yesterday, and we're looking forward to it. He's got a lot of public safety background, police, sheriff's office, detention center. I may ask him to give us some pointers on the detention center. But I think this is going to be a great match," said Smith.
Pending contractual negotiations with Hernandez, Savannah City Council will hold a vote for his formal appointment on September 1.
