SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Our local Red Cross Chapter in Savannah is sending more volunteers to Baton Rouge, LA. Bringing their total deployment to seven.

These volunteers will be helping with supplies, food distribution and IT support.

Red Cross officials say this will be one of their most expensive disasters since Hurricane Isaac. They really need us push folks to donate online. Remember Red Cross only accepts monetary donations.

"In my situation, I will be in charge of the warehouse and we have to make sure that everything is ready and prepped and ready to go out to the clients,” said Mark Hayes, Red Cross volunteer.

"Overnight, American Red Cross has had over ten thousand people in shelters. Haven't seen that many people in shelters since back to Hurricane Isaac. We are expecting this disaster to be huge for us that we will be on the ground for months to come,” said Executive Director of Southeast and Coastal Georgia, Esther Sheppard.

Officials say the public can help by making a monetary donation to the Red Cross. For more information, please click here.
