There's some good news to report on the damaged Sam Varnedoe Bridge. The dump truck crash which caused severe structural damage is still causing traffic problems, but help is on the way.
Today the Chatham County Commission approved $500,000 to start the repairs.
"That will pay for the engineers and the cost of paying for the structural damages and repairs to the bridge," said Robert Drewery with Chatham County Public Works.
Now all they're waiting for is bids from contractors. As soon as a contractor is approved, repairs will begin immediately.
The county expects to start receiving bids next week.
