Thank-you waffles for first responders, military

Thank You waffles for first responders, military.

POOLER, GA (WTOC) - Sometimes it truly is the little things in life that can make the biggest difference.

That's why one Pooler business owner decided to host a special breakfast Friday to give thanks to some people who don't often get it hear those words.

What better way to say thank you than to sit down and share a free meal. Ryan Johnson is the general manager of the Comfort Inn & Suites Savannah Airport.  He put together a special chicken and waffles breakfast Friday morning to show first responders and the military he appreciates them.

"They're taking care of us out here. They're making sure our businesses are safe, making sure that everything is taken care of. They're out here throughout all times of night putting their lives on the line essentially for our livelihoods," said Johnson.
Johnson knows first-hand what their tough days can be like because he's lived it himself, working in the fire service for many years.

"You don't get a lot of 'thank you' in that line of work so it feels really good to be able to throw something simple like this together and affect the community," said Johnson.

"It means a lot for the Comfort Inn & Suites to reach out to first responders and military personnel in the area given a lot that's going on today in the world, a lot which you see in the news," said Officer James Jackson, with the Pooler Police Department.

Officer Jackson says it also gives them the chance to bond outside of their stressful jobs.

"It gives a chance to see each other. Otherwise, we see each other at work and a lot of times it's not so nice but a lot of times we get to fellowship and catch up where otherwise you wouldn't see them," said Officer Jackson.

Now, the first responders and military members are saying thank you back for the recognition.

This is something many other Comfort Inn & Suites will be doing across the nation. Participating hotels will serve waffles to various groups who make a difference in their community to show their appreciation.
