A Toombs County husband faces murder charges in the death of his wife over the weekend.
The case has investigators trying to figure out a motive. An autopsy and forensics test will tell investigators what happened in the death of Birdie Ann Poole, but it won't tell you why.
Early Sunday morning, 911 got a call from Poole saying she'd been shot and asking for help. Deputies arrived and the fence was locked, they had to pull their cars up and use them as step ladders.
Once inside, they found her dead and her husband in the same room.
They arrested Jimmy Wayne Poole and charged him with murder. Toombs County Sheriff Alvie Kight said the victim appeared to have multiple gunshots to the head.
The sheriff said the husband denied firing the shots.
“What we saw at the scene and what he told us didn't match up. We're now waiting on the results of the autopsy,” said Sheriff Kight.
According to the sheriff, the couple lived in this home for decades and had little communication with relatives or others, including the man's grown children.
A judge has already denied bond to Poole. He'll wait in the Toombs County jail for his next court appearance.
