Big changes making a big difference near one Chatham County boat ramp.

Construction near Turner Creek, off of Johnny Mercer Boulevard, began last year. A parking expansion, new building, dock, ramps and pavilion added.

The building houses restrooms and office space for Marine Control. That parking expansion adds 55 spaces to the site.

Overall, boaters tell us all of the renovation makes for a more relaxing day on the water.

"It makes things go faster. When you're trying to get here and get in the water because there might be four or five people lined up. And with two extra boat ramps, three altogether, it helps,” said Bradley Sullivan.

Total construction cost is over $4 million. Most of that going into the retaining wall that was constructed along Johnny Mercer to provide parking along the entrance road.

Landscaping around the building is scheduled for October and it will only take about a week.
