Georgia Power introduces 'Smart Grid' tech

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Georgia Power is upgrading their system to help restore power quicker. Georgia Power says thanks to a new "smart grid" an outage can be fixed faster.

"Say a tree falls in a particular location and damages a line, that whole circuit may go out initially in protection to protect the system but then we'll have the technology begin to look for the quickest ways to isolate the damage and get the rest of the customers back on," said Georgia Power spokesman John Kraft.

Georgia Power says it's seeing the result and will be upgrading power equipment at the substation on Wilmington Island starting next year.
