SCREVEN CO., GA (WTOC) -

According to the Screven County Sheriff's Office, the body of Donavan Newsome was found on Tuesday morning.

The search on the Savannah River started Sunday and moved into Tuesday. DNR crews from Georgia and South Carolina pulled in between stretches as they searched the Savannah River for any sign of the young man He was out with two friends, taking turns being pulled by a boat.

“They'd been knee boarding and the rope got hung around the propeller. Two of them went in to get it untangled,” said Screven County Sheriff Mike Kile.

The sheriff said the engine was left idling and the carbon monoxide knocked them out. The third person pulled the pair from the water, but one fell back into the water and disappeared.

“Just a strange, fluke of a situation. I've never heard of the string getting caught around the propeller. But when we got it out of the water, it was hung real badly,” said Sheriff Kile.

Search and rescue crews from Screven County, as well as EMA teams from Bulloch County, were on site to do whatever they could in hopes he might be stranded somewhere in the water, but still alive.
