SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A historic organ inside of a Savannah church was left damaged after a vandal breaks in and leaves the place a mess.

That organ is on its way Tuesday to being fully restored to make music again. Certain parts were removed to head to a specialist in Atlanta to be worked on.

A company picking up those parts from First Bryan Baptist Church two weeks after a man broke in, high on drugs and destroyed it.

It will take about 9 months, but church members say the time and money is worth it because the piece hasn't been played in a very long time.

"I never thought I'd see this in my lifetime. I never thought I would see the back of the organ- parts by parts, piece by piece- during my lifetime. So this is a blessing. And for me to hear it played during my lifetime, that's another blessing,” said Georgia Wright-Benton, First Bryan Baptist Church.

The organ is 127 years old and was purchased from Independent Presbyterian in the 1800's for $1,400. Now, it is valued at $1.45 million.
