Home renovations will soon be underway in Garden City.

A meeting for community members wanting to spruce up their houses was held Tuesday night. The Garden City Housing Team recently receiving a $300,000 grant for repairs.

The Cooper Center filled with eager residents living in either the Rossingol Hill or Chatham Villa areas wanting to apply for six slots open for improvements. Those improvements include anything from replacing windows to trimming trees to chimney repairs.

The grant money will be split between residents meeting a certain income bracket. All at no cost.

"Oh man, I thank God for something like this because this is something we needed and hoped for. You know, a lot of people live from paycheck to paycheck and this would be great for everyone,” said Kenneth Williams, a lifelong resident of Garden City.

Pre-applications will be accepted until September 9. After that, home inspections will be conducted and then it will be narrowed down to see just how many repairs can be made.
